Stunning and Strategic

Designer: Robert Trent Jones Jr.

The North Course at Coto de Caza Golf & Racquet Club opened to rave reviews in 1987. At 7,228 yards in length, the course features holes that are open off of the tee and provide options for players of all levels.

The signature hole on the North Course is hole number 1. This par 5 features a challenging tee shot over a barranca with out-of-bounds on the right. The long narrow green, with Mt. Trabuco in the background, and bunkers protecting the right side, provide for a difficult test for the opening hole.

Pro Tips

The course opens with its signature 601-yard par 5, which is considered one of the best starting holes in southern California. A 170-yard carry is required off the tee to clear a ravine followed by a lay-up second shot that must avoid the seven bunkers guarding the left side of the fairway. The green on this hole is narrow, so a premium is placed on distance control on the approach.
